[jOrgan-user] Aria player and jOrgan

I'm starting a new topic related to alternate sound engines for jOrgan
because it looked like the "sfz limitations" topic was getting a tad
cluttered.

I downloaded the Aria player version of the Balzan v1.2 organ from Maltese
pipe organs. My purpose was to look at the sfz file format for some hints as
to taking indvidual WAV files from GrandOrgue and free Hauptwerk sample sets
and importing them into sfz for playback by linuxsampler and controlled by
jOrgan.

Unfortunately, the WAVs for the sample set are derived from a soundfont, and
as such won't have the attributes we have been discussing, i.e., multiple
releases, multiple loops, etc.

Also, I can't actually use the Aria player because it is not available for
Linux.

I also don't think this will provide a very good way to soundfonts to other
sample formats, since playing this sample set via Aria should only play as
well as the original soundfont. Or maybe I'm wrong? At any rate, it won't
provide releases, etc.

Hi Thomas,

Balzan sampleset and its various versions has been work done largely by
Panos. Graham G had pitched in for the HW versions.

The sampleset and all the others produced or being created by Maltese
Historic Pipe Organs were first and foremost created for GrandOrgue.
Adaptations were made to suit and customise for other software (ie Aria,
Kontakt, jOrgan and HW). So if you want to analyse wav files, you must see
and hear the GO versions, and particularly the wet one for multiple releases
specifically. Dry sets have a single short release incorporated into the
main wav form/ file for each note.

We have not developed multiple attacks. Many samples will have at least 1
(obviously), often 2 or at times even more loops per wav file. I have
occasionally gone up to 7, 8 or 9 loops but it is not the rule. With regards
to releases, we have conveniently included one release with the main wav
sample (the longest, sustained) and added a staccato and portato releases
separately for notes played at (held for) shorter duration.

Thanks Mark. I have the GO versions and like them very much. My interest in
the Aria version was to see an example of an sfz file utilizing all the
various possibilities of releases, loops etc. Since it was only for a
converted version of a soundfont format, I'm forced to go back to the
drawing board.
